Secrets in the jungle

This is a quick piece I've been busy with for about 3 hours, I referenced a model pose, for the figure, then gave her an african feel with the clothing and surrounding.

It was fun working out the colours and playing with the shading, you'll see its beyond perfect, but it was quick and for fun.

Plus I just finished exams! I couldn't wait to get back to my art! Hope ya'll like it :)

Suzie's Dream

So, this drawing like most of my drawings happened in a spur of the moment, but I recall why I did this one!
I was working on the the theme of children's books, a theme I really am enthusiastic about! I've always wanted to illustratr a childrens book, but haven't found anyone interested yet, so I did the next best thing, Character designing for a story, or rather a serious of stories in my head! The results? A racoon, who was a soldier in the civil war sitting on a mushroom contemplating sadly, the horrors he witnessed. Story 2, little Suzie, after whom the illustration is tittled dreaming iof a fairy princess and unlocking magic from a box she finds while packing for a move to a new place, away from her life and friends. Bleh, so there you go, painted in a water colour theme, and a story line meant for the kids, Bet you wish I had Illustrated your book now Charles Don't ya!

Hope you Like. :)

3.

These are a serious of 3 drawings of women through the ages i decided to do. This was during hectic projects and exams, i needed a release and a book i had looked at on children's book illustrators had sparked my imagination. These ideas spawned one after the other at quite random intervals, one of these figures is actually a friend of mine. Antway, I will finish up the rough background and probably take the colouring and shading a step further sometime as well. just thought I should take some dust off my blog first!!!

Hope you like :)

Inspiration

Hey guys! So I've been so held up lately by school projects that I've almost had sleepless nights about my drawing journal drawing up dust! Pure sacrilege!

So I've forced myself to bend the space and time fabric to find an extra 20 or so minutes a day to do a few sketches and some painting. Within that limited time i looked through an interesting website for creatives of all kinds, especially the evil type.

I came across the website called Behance.net while looking for some colour schemes for an animation project, and instead came across some illustration work that caught my eye!
Needless to say my mind was blown! Not necessarily by the illustrations themselves, more that I could recognise the process of the work, and moreover that I could relate to it.

My favourite kind of illustration I think at the moment involves styles that echo my own, but are levels of experience ahead of me, it gives me incentive and drive, to surpass or atleast learn the secret of that illustration or illustrator.

By the way here's the website: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Robots/3647049 haha incase I forget

Anyway, this approach spawned from a chat with my main home dog and mentor Michael Stopforth check him out at http://havesuperpowers.wordpress.com
He said something to me that stuck, basically he told me, studying someone's style indepth, gives you the ability or rather potential to attain the experience they have, and add that to your own! The notion is abit crazy, but makes sense in terms of how we draw inspiration, in the same way that we tried to copy our favourite anime style or tried to draw pokemon or whatever gets you going, you learned to draw that particular article in the same way you saw it, that meant either understanding the process of drawing it or the secret of why it works.

To end this off, finally, I believe inspiration by copying is a great thing, and even more fruitful if you can take that to another level or avenue. So watch this space for some interesting new stuff soon. Peace :)

Water colour- children's illustration

Here is a little water colour painting I've completed recently that could possibly be used for a children's book illustrations. I haven't used water colours in quite a while and missed the feel.

I was looking for a relevant and interesting image to paint, and came across a picture that made me go," awww" haha and I know this illustration will make you do the same. A lot of my friends had some nostalgic feeling of their childhood with this one. :)

Digital illustration

Another illustration I've done for my editorial design. This time I decided to go a little monotone working with blues and purples, it was more about unity and the line drawing.

Feel free to leave a comment or suggestion. :)

Digital illustration

This is one of many illustrations I made for an editorial project I'm currently busy with. I think I've drawn this exact picture more than 10 times in various styles! I fear I won't be using it for the final project so, I thought I'd share it here. The theme for my magazine is, parkour lifestyle, very much inspired by illustration. And the philosophies of parkour itself.

Its an interesting projecting that we're busy with, out of my comfort zone but its also extremely exciting. Been checking out tutorials for photoshop effects!

Enjoy :) here are some links I looked at!

Illustration

I've been playing around with some illustration techniques for book illustrations and cartoons. Using my chinese brush and colouring on photoshop, this is just a quick experiment. The character I came up with is a raccoon called Roger, he's a russian and sports the traditional Shapka hat. This was pretty fun to do and the technique lends itself to this kind of illustration and my style of work. Pretty inspired by works of Sergei Brosa (sergibrosa.blogspot.com/ ) and some childrens book illustrators.

I feel happy with this illustration cause I'm developing my style and feel well, daily :) I feel the colour compliments the drawing well :) comments are welcome!

Shia

Thank transformers for this one. It got me thinking, what would it be like if Shia leBeouff got an upgrade and became kind an android, crazy but that's what went through my mind :) plus my liking for the angelic had its role in the composition. Its an old piece I did in illustrator quite quickly just to get the idea across.

Muse

This was just an idea I had, while looking at works from Stanely lau, and listening to some awesome song, and this was the result :) done early this year when I first started painting so excuse its rough state.

Sketch

This is a sketch I love so much! You know when you do something, take a step back and go,"damn, did I do that?" That's the effect this has on me. Its one of my sketches from last year, where I let my imagination go wild.

I'd been working on a character, who was pretty cool, then decided to make him capable of transforming into a creature that could do things he couldn't. So I gave him the black lines running down a cheetah's face, then spots, then this, then that, and in the end, it was a cheetah man, fused with an elephant and a fox! Inspirations were very diverse, I like :)

More body painting?!

Right, so I'd been getting some requests for designing tattoos in the past months, which was pretty exciting, but I must say one of the most awesome requests I'd gotten was from a club manager of a Joburg club, The Doors, who asked me to showcase my skills and paint Henna patterns on club goers, pretty insane right? So I had to prepare somehow, I mean I'm new to this stuff haha, so what better way the to use my girlfriend as a model?

The black and white is one of the photos from the painting that went down at the club, courtesy of Black Apple Productions.http://m.facebook.com/B.Apple.Productions?refid=13&ref=logo

Tattoo Designs

Ok so after I got a pretty good response on my contribution to my previous post about my body painting work, people started requesting tattoo designs from me! As one of my body painting pieces http://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150809166113471&id=546313470&set=a.10150468750518471.366295.546313470&ref=logo had drawn a pretty good response from people. So I got a lot of offers to start designing tattoos which I'm currently still doing, this is one of the pretty cool ones I've done. It was later tattooed on a friend by a tattoo artist, not me.( Infact, it was the boyfriend of the model I painted in my last post; small world :P)

Body painting

So, oneday a friend of mine sends me a message that someone wanted a painter, I got into contact with the client, yet little did I know, I'd be body painting! Turned out a photographer wanted an artist to paint a model, I turned out to be that artist, this is the model and the rest is history :)

Sketches-Tired of waiting to be saved?

This is painting I'm working on right now, its an idea that I drew up in my visual journal. Its supposed to be an environmental campaign, for animals fighting back for their habitats. Polar bears in particular, upset by the melting polar ice caps, haha, as you can see its abit comical. A lot of friends suggested sending it to the WWF, perhaps they like the idea :)

Sketch- The Runners

This is a rough sketch I just finished of my futuristic theme, I'm calling it "The Runners", as it is influenced by my other passion, free-running and parkour.

In the scene 3 men take down a drone, one of the men does a free-running manoeuvre, called a "webster" as he takes out the drone. You can trust that I will soon be painting this one :D.

7th order- Fan art

Any of my good friends know that I have a secret passion for angels. So when the movie Legion came out a few years back I was first to know and love it!

I've always loved drawing angels, this image was based on a poster of legion, as I liked how they portrayed angels in the film, sort of badass. Angels with guns is just hardcore so I just added another layer, turning my angel into a proper soldier, kind of futuristic. :)

Sketches

This artwork from my visual journal is one I posted up on my facebook album earlier this year, although it wasn't finished. I finally got inspiration to add final details, and I kind of like it. I didn't want to change a lot since the Original idea was an image found on old parchment that was sketched on by an artist on expedition who had no paper on him haha, random but that's what goes on in my head. :)

Digital painting is quite new for me as I only Started this year, but I fell inlove with it none the less, most of my work is experimental, a few commisions here and there! So as I make more paintings, I'll link them here and feel free to comment. Thank you :D
